Xiaodian District

Geographical and Natural Conditions:

    Xiaodian District is located in the southeast of Taiyuan proper, with flat and wide land and fertile ground. The Fenhe River and the 208 national road run the district from the north to the south. Highway lines link to all parts of the district. It covers an area of 295 square kilometers and governs 6 subdistrict offices, 1 town and 2 townships, including 78 resident commissions and 98 villages. A total permanent population is 470,000, including non-agricultural population of 324000. This is a district integrated with urban and suburban areas and is directly under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan City .

    History:

    The predecessor of Xiandian District was Nanjiao District. It was established in 1998 when the administrative division of Taiyuan City was readjusted. The District has a long history and is a place propitious for Di Renjie in history. In recent years, all the people in the District have worked in a pioneering and creative spirit to take the overall economic strength forward. A remarkable achievement has been made in eco Society and a flourishing situation have emerged in the District.

    Advantages in Geographical Location:

    Xiaodian District enjoys advantages in its geographical location, in its south and convenient communications in the district, where is wery comfortable for people's living and working in, and is also a major developing area in the strategy of "moving from the north to the south". Taiyuan High- tech Development Zone is settled in its north and Taiyuan Economic and technological Development Zone is settled in its east, providing advantages for extension of high technology and introduction of specialized personnel. Taiyuan Airport is located here, and a network of mobile telephone service and fixed-line telephone service covers all the area. Many industries such as biological medicine, machinery, chemical, food processing, real estate, information technology, new building materials, catering, entertainment and urban agriculture are settled here.     Social and Economic Development:

    In 2003 its GDP was 1.804 billion yuan, up 23.3 per cent year on year. Its financial income totaled 371.00 million yuan, up 34.2 per cent. Its retail sales of con summer goods for the whole society totaled 2.137 billion yuan, up 29.8 per cent. Per capita net income of farmers was 4358 yuan, up 10.6 per cent. Its main economic indexes all met the standards in the "Tenth Five- Year Plan" ahead of two years. The year 2003 was the one with highest growth rate in history. Accompanied by the fast growing economy, a remarkable achievement has been made in other social undertakings, showing stable social order and flourishing people's lives.

    Development Target:

    With the implementation of the strategy of "moving Taiyuan proper from the north to the south ", Taiyuan Education Park starts to be constructed in Xiaodian District. Faced with new opportunity in next round development, Xiaodian District has formulated the target of “creating a district with best environment for investment in the province and becoming the first to develop economy in the city". It has set for the five strategies of "speeding up development, realizing the urban and rural integration, environmental innovation, invigorating the district through science and technology, governing the district in law".
