Geographical and Natural
Conditions:
Located in the hinterland of Luliang
Mountain ranges, Loufan is a suburban county far away Taiyuan
City. It is adjacent to Gujiao City in east, to Jiaocheng
County in south, to Fangshan County in west and to Lanxian
County in north. It is situated at eastern longitude 111¡ã31'
¨C 112¡ã02' and northern latitude 37¡ã51' ¨C 38¡ã13', with a total
length of 48 kilometers from the east to the west and 35 kilometers
from the south to the east. It covers a total area of 1276
square kilometers, with relief hills and mountains, of which
the summit of mountains is an altitude of 2708.9 meters above
sea level and its lowest hill is an altitude of 1030 meters
above seal level. It is of the continental monsoon climate
in temperate zone, drought and less rainy. Temperatures in
clay and night vary different. Annual temperature averages
7.l¡æ-8.l¡æ. Annual precipitation averages 428-450 mm, with
a frost- free period of 130-160 days a year. Now, it governs
5 townships, 3 towns, 143 villages, 6 community commissions,
with permanent resident population of 116, 000 including non
- agricultural population of 20, 000.
History:
Loufan was a name of tribal society
in ancient times and was evolved into a regional oncept later.
It can be dated to the secondary year of Yongzheng reign (1724)
of the Qing Dynasty, when Loufan became a town and was directly
under the jurisdiction of Jingle County. In 1940, it was affiliated
to Jingle County. In October 1949-April 1971, Loufan was affiliated
to Jingle County, too. In May 1971, it was designated as a
county by approval of the State Council and was under the
jurisdiction of Luliang Prefecture. Since April 1972, it has
been affiliated to Taiyuan City.
Advantages Geographical Location:
Loufan County is rich in natural
resources. It has proved mineral reserves of 16 kinds as coal,
iron, marble, tungsten, silicon, aluminium and bauxite. Of
which coal reserves are 1.50 billion tons, including gas coal,
fat coal and coking coal, with coal field area of 65 square
kilometers distributing in two fields of south and north.
Its iron reserves are 600 million tons, iron contents accounting
for above 45 per cent, distributing in its west area. Its
marble reserves are 100 million cubic meters, with fine quality
and easy exploitation. Its tungsten mine distributes in southwest
region, with 14.8 per cent tungsten content, which is an abundant
mine in northern China. The territory covers more than 40
steams and rivers, with water area of 4931 hectares. Its groundwater
reserves can be developed by 109, 700 cubic meters per day.
There are more than 560 catalogues of wild plants and 260
kinds of wild animals in the County. Its main crops are millet,
maize, sorghum, potato, bean, etc.
Social and Economic Development:
In 2003, Loufan County speeded up
its development of agricultural industrialization and further
improved the construction of rural infrastructures. It strongly
supported the superior enterprises and made a great progress
in social and economic development. Its GDP was 350 million
yuan. Its financial income totaled 60 million yuan. Its retail
sales of consumer goods for the whole society reached 73 million
yuan. Its gross output value of enterprises totaled 410 million
yuan. Per capita net income of farmers was 941 yuan. |
