Geographical and Natural
Conditions:
Jinyuan District is situated in the
southwest of Taiyuan proper, known as Jinyang in ancient times.
It is adjacent to Xiaodian District in east, to Qingxu County,
Gujiao City and Iuliang Mountain Ranges in west, to Gaojiapu
Village of Yaocun Town of Qingxu County in south, and to Wanbailin
District in north. The Fenhe River' runs through the territory
from the, north to the east. It covers an area of 288 square
meters, with 25 kilometers long from the south to the north
and 20 kilometers long from tire east to the west, each of
mountainous area and plain area accounting for one half. Now
it governs 3 towns, 3 subdistrict offices, 91 villages, 18
community commissions, with permanent resident population
of 180,000 including non -agricultural population of 66,000.
History:
It is the site of former Jinyang town
and is one of the birthplaces of Shanxi civilization, with
a history of more than 2000 years, and 15 dynasties ever settling
their capitals here in history. It is also the birthplace
of Chinese surname of Wang and Zhang, tradition has it that
"Jian Tong Feng Di" (the title of Tang was conferred
on his younger brother by Cheng King) and other historical
stories took place here, where is full of profound history
and extension culture.
Advantages in Geographical
Location:
It is a main production base of non -
staple foodstuff in Taiyuan City and is also the largest production
base of rice in the province, mainly plants rice, wheat, and
corn crops and vegetables. Its western mountainous area is
rich in mineral resources as coal, gypsmn, sulphur, bauxite,
limestone, etc. Jinyuan District was deemed as a "special
district of tourism and economy" by Shanxi Provincial
Government for its profound history, extension culture, magnificent
national environment and abundant historical and cultural
heritage. There are more than 170 scenic spots and cultural
and historical sites in the distriet, such as Jinci Temple,
Grottoes on Tianlong Mountain, and historical relics of ancient
Jinyang town. And the Jinyang lake--the largest man- made
lake in the North China, is also in the district, with an
area of 5.1 square kilometers
Social and Economic Development
In 2003, the District made efforts
to follow the objective of "taking the lead in development
and rejuvenating the district and enriching the people".
All the people in the District exerted their utmost to maintain
the rapid and coordinated development of economy and social
undertakings. Its main economic indexes ranked the top in
history. Its GDP was 1.078 billion yuan, up 19 per cent Its
financial income totaled 115 million yuan, up 30.5 per cent.
Per capita net income of farmers was 3680 yuan, up 8.9 per
cent. Its natural growth rate of population was controlled
in 2.65бы.
